Interiors è una rivista di arredamento ed architettura degli interni pubblicata mensilmente a New York dal 1881, che nel 1977 cambia nome per divenire Contract Interiors
Le circa 200 pagine che compongono ogni fascicolo sono composte in parti uguali da pubblicità e da articoli e rubriche ricorrenti, gli editoriali con le linee di indirizzo di ogni fascicolo, le tante lettere di commenti e chiarimenti da parte dei lettori, e una serie di rassegne, di progetti presentati sulla stampa estera specializzata, di prodotti americani ed importati e di rivenditori. Alcuni fascicoli sono tematizzati, con temi ricorrenti negli anni: il contract (per alberghi e gli uffici), la manutenzione del costruito, la presentazione dei migliori lavori dell’anno dei decoratori americani. L’attenzione è tutta rivolta all’arredo, il pezzo di design prodotto in serie, e ai complementi, lampade e oggetti; trovano molto spazio anche i materiali di finitura, come piastrelle, pietre e legni per i pavimenti, o il tessile.

Soprattutto negli anni '50 il contributo italiano alla sua pubblicazione è molto consistente: italiani sono stati gli art director tra il 1941 e il 1957, con l'eccezione di Bernard Rudofsky (che pure con l’Italia ha un rapporto molto stretto) che ricopre questo ruolo tra il 1945 e il 1951. Tra il 1941 e il 1945, l'art director è Costantino Nivola, tra il 1952 e il 1957 Aldo Giurgola, in collaborazione nel 1955 con Roberto Mango. La loro impronta resta evidente per tutto il periodo di interesse, soprattutto nelle copertine, caratterizzate dalla presenza di una immagine semplificata e astratta a evidenziarne le qualità grafiche: è soprattutto Costantino Nivola, memore dell’esperienza milanese della Domus di Gio Ponti, a definirne questo carattere. 
La direzione editoriale è affidata a Olga Gueft, che la mantiene dal 1953 al 1974: da lei dipendono le scelte fondamentali di puntare sui giovani designer e sulla produzione d’avanguardia italiana e nord europea, svedese e danese, soprattutto per il design dell’arredo, dei complementi e del tessile, molto evidente soprattutto negli anni ’50. Soprattutto nella prima metà degli anni ’50, la volontà di presentare la rinascita dopo la guerra e il progetto moderno sono evidenti, e in parte si perdono negli anni successivi a vantaggio di una visione più tradizionale, in stile.


Il progetto italiano viene presentato attraverso tre canali principali: il racconto di progetti magistrali realizzati in Italia (uno per tutti, il Tesoro di San Lorenzo a Genova), la descrizione di oggetti importati sul mercato americano (spesso con l’intermediazione nel progetto del moderno di Singer and Sons, di Altamira e di Piazza per conto della House of Italian Handicrafts e di Dinolevi per la ripresa del classico), e la recensione di mostre ed eventi culturali che promuovono la cultura architettonica e arredativa italiana (le Triennali, così come le grandi mostre su suolo americano, come Italy at Work). Inoltre viene promosso nelle pagine pubblicitarie, dove l’italianità viene presentata come tratto distintivo, anche nei termini di una creatività stravagante, e garanzia di qualità (come avveniva anche per la produzione scandinava). L’Italia è proposta come meta, di osservazione e di viaggi, spesso patrocinati dai grandi importatori per favorire la conoscenza diretta, e non solo del mondo classico e storico.
Il diminuito interesse per la produzione italiana si riscontra nella diminuzione delle recensioni di progetti e prodotti, mentre rimane attraverso gli anni la presenza nella parte pubblicitaria della rivista.
