“Tu vuò fa l’americano” is a Neopolitan language song originally sung by Italian singer Renato Carosone. It was released in 1956. The original version of the song was featured in many films and in 1960, it was sung by Sophia Loren in the film It Started in Naples.

The song lyrics speak to the Americanization that occurred in Italy in the early years after World War II, and mentions an Italian who affects a conremporary American lifestyle, which includes drinking whisky and soda, dancing to rock ‘n roll, playing baseball and smoking Camel cigarettes.
