The high-fashion brand Gucci was founded in Florence, Italy in 1921 by Guccio Gucci. At first the company was only selling leather goods, with a strong focus on travel items.
It was soon after that Gucci began branching to include equestrian equipment and wallets. The first Gucci boutique opened in Rome on the luxury shopping street Via Condotti in 1938.
One of Guccio Gucci’s sons, Rodolfo, opened a storefront in Milan in 1951 and then expanded to the USA in 1953 with a storefront in New York City. The brand continued to grow in the following decades and is now one of the most popular Italian fashion brands in the US.
The famous double-G local was created in 1961, which is the logo still used today.
