Italian immigrants arrived on Ellis Island and would then spread to other areas close by in the mid 1800 to early 1900s. Arthur Avenue is a street in the Belmont neighbourhood of the Bronx, New York. Both Arthur Avenue and Morris Park are viewed to be the Italian American communities in the Bronx. This was in part due to the fact that the Belmont neighbourhood was beginning to be marketed to Italian immigrants as the “Italian colonies” by real estate developers at the turn of the 20th century.

Among its most notorious dwellers, it is worth mentioning Jake LaMotta, most commonly known as "The Bronx Bull."

Today Arthur Avenue contains more than two dozen shops and restaurants that have been in business for 50 to 100 years and are now owned and operated by third or fourth generations of the families that started them. The Morris Park area in the Bronx is one of the few Little Italies in New York that remained as Italian populated neighbourhoods. However, even as Italians slowly continue to move out of the area, it remains known for its lively Italian food scene.
